My choice in bags has radically changed since retiring from work.  I have owned many Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Burberry bags all very well loved and used then passed down to granddaughters  - though I still retain two favorites.

A few years ago I went to a class for knitting and felting bags/totes - loved the class made about a dozen of these for all the family who love them and still we all use them on preference to our other bags.  DD has a mighty collection of Radley and Dooney bags but carries mostly the one I made.

Everywhere we go we are asked ‘where did you get your bag’ and people want to place orders!  Just this week daughter said come on Mum let’s have some new bags.

So it is all personal preference from high end to hand knitted.  I loved my designer bags - still use the two I kept - love my felted ones but I do have my eye on a new Burberry one too.

Enjoy your choices carry what makes you feel good.  Enjoy.

The Dooney bags have bothered me for some time. Yes, we live in a capitalistic society & people have a right to spend as much $ as they want on whatever they want. And yes, they're high quality. But those purses are outrageous...and QVC is always selling tons of them. Plus, add that to how many get sold in retail stores. You can get a really beautiful, quality leather purse/tote for $50-$100. Imagine if everyone of means bought a $100 bag instead of a Dooney and took the other $179+ and did something charitable with it? Wow...a lot of good could happen for some needy folks!

I give a lot of money to charity, and that does not preclude me from buying quality handbags, also.

Obviously, women are paying the high prices but none that participate on this forum.  Frye is crazy with their prices.  It's not gold!  They should get together with over priced Logo.

Sunday, I wore a pair of Frye boots I bought in 1977. Quality lasts...

Seriously?  You can't possibly think that $300 is a lot for handbag.  Not in today's market.  There are faux leather handbags that sell for hundreds of dollars so $300 for a well made, leather bag that a woman will carry for years, if she takes care of it, is a bargain.  Yes, yes, yes.  I know, there are $29.99 handbags that will carry our stuff too.

Time to come out of the 50's. That isn't a lot for a quality bag in today's market.

And, here we go again. Step away from your TV for a time, especially shopping channels.

@klb2, if you think D&B handbags are "outrageous", you better not look at bags like LV, Prada, Gucci and even Stella McCartney that are vegan leather.  You can buy multiple D&B bags for the cost of 1 of those.

Some people can afford to buy high-end bags and still donate to charity.  It's not really anyone's place to tell others how to spend their money and how much to donate.  I'm quite certain you probably spend some of your money on things others would find wasteful.  And that's your business.

My message was only meant to say... NOT FOR ME.  I do carry what I want or need  for a much much cheaper price point.... and yes even fits cell phones because I buy by style and for utility.

@bonnielu   In my post, the only one here that referred to cell phones, I was saying the bags from 40 years ago don't have cell phone pockets.
