If a person has a tv set with HDMI Inputs you can plug in a Roku. You also need to have a WiFi connection, preferably one with high speed downloading. If you have wifi and an HDMI input, I see no reason why any version of Roku would not work.
I do not have Roku, but were I to purchase it, it would be the latest 4k version as we have 4k television sets. Really see no reason not to like it as I believe a lot of the viewing is free. You still have to pay for, or rent some of the, movies and maybe even tv series, not 100% sure on that part.

@goldensrbest You can put Roku on any tv. I have an old JVC like 18 years old? They have different ones and you can hook it to any TV. You just have to make sure you get the one you want. Walmart sells them. They have wonderful CS as well. I love mine.

I would go to the Roku site, and look for the different models . I would then look for the device for the best price.

The Roku that @BalletBabe is talking about is not digital quality. It has what are called "composite or RCA inputs", just like your very old VCR's. The resolution, at best, is 480p, so it depends on the quality of video and sound you would rather watch and hear.
If your tv set is only 6 years old, I would be shocked if it did not have an HDMI Input. HDMI is digital sound and video, and instead of running 3 cables(if it is stereo, and 2 if it is monophonic sound), with HDMI both stereo sound and High Definition(720p or 1080p) depending on your cable box and your tv set, need only 1 cable, an HDMI.
If you have Comcast for your cable and internet you should have a high speed connection. If you use a tablet in your home at all or cell phone to get on the internet, you have WiFi.
For some cheaper older versions of Roku, they either use "composite outputs", some versions, called Roku Stick, use a USB to connect to your tv set, so for those you need a tv set with a USB Input, or you will have to buy an adapter. Even many new tv sets do not have a USB Input.
Up to you how much you want to spend and the quality of viewing you choose to watch. I have been into Audio/Video going back to 1955, when there was not even stereo FM radio. Got into video with the 1st VCR's back in the late 1960's. That said, I prefer the best picture and sound available, and using the long antiquated "Composite/RCA Cables"? No way for me.
