to Amazon prime users or any that know

I do not have an e-reader yet but am planning to buy one soon (Kindle Fire?) . With Amazon prime membership can you use any brand e-reader to use their free once a month book?

Also what are your opinions of the prime membership? It seemed expensive to me until I divided the yearly amount by 12 and saw how inexpensive it was monthly, consindering I have been buying more and more through Amazon and sometimes buy a few things that I do not need to get the free shipping.

What are opinions about the streaming options? Are there free CURRENT tv shows like in HULU+?
