sirius satellite radio-pros and cons

I can barely stand local radio stations, but don't want to (or know how to ) upload songs into an IPOD, and fiddling with CD's while in the car is out too. I love Music Choice on cable, and want the same or similar experience in the car. I would appreciate a ball park figure on what it would cost to get Satellite radio installed, and what those of you who have it -what do you think? The music I like the most is what you don't hear on the radio. Thanks everyone

We've had ours in the car we bought 4 years ago. I enjoy the 50's on 5. It's nice when traveling to not have to search for stations as you drive along. It's also nice not to have all the advertising in between songs. We just subscribe to the music part and there are many many channels of all kinds of music.

I now what you mean. Love music but hate the radio stations here and the music they play. Except for my one Jazz station. I have Pandora on my TV and computer and lots of cd's etc. I was thinking about Sirius also for the car. I heard if you get it with other family members you get a discount and it's like 10.00 a month. Not sure about that though. Sorry Check it out on their site I guess.

You know you can go to the website and see the subscription costs, but for an automobile fitted for S/XM, it's about $15 a month. I take the traffic alert system for an extra 3. It is good if you have a commute. I have a boring 1/2 hr to 40 min each way and it's nice to have. If you take long trips, it's particularly nice.

If the cost is prohibitive, a loaded up mp3 player can be interfaced in most cars as can an Iphone.

I haven't looked into Pandora. Some people like it.

I like the news and talk stations so I like S/XM

Re: sirius satellite radio-pros and cons

Well, I agree that "free" music, commercial music is terrible!!!!! However, after having Sirius for many years, 8 or so, I gave it up. I found myself switching it off and going over to "free" music!!!!! Too much talking in between music. I'm not paying to hear their lousy DJs.

Their music they have programmed is very uncreative. Same-ole-same-ole. Just like commercial radio where they play the same music over & over to sell recordings, downloads, etc.

Customer service isn't good either. Almost as bad as Comcast. Which is the lowest of the low.

Best to have a variety of options: iTunes, CD's, radio, streaming.

One Pro: U can try it out for free for a limited time, obviously.

I've had Sirius in my car for over 3 yrs, and I would really miss it, if we discontinued. I like the fact that in addition to listening to my favorite music channels, we can listen to CNN, sports, etc as well. I think that it's worth the money.

Re: sirius satellite radio-pros and cons

I have had Sirius radio for as long as I can remember. I have had it so long I don't even know what my local stations are. If you don't have a Sirius radio pre-installed in your car, Best Buy can help you pick one out and install it for you. They are very reasonably priced. You can also go to the sirius dot com website and see what is available there. They also have pricing for different listening packages (you can spend as little as $10/month for 80 stations).

When I am running around town I listen to music mostly or a college football game. When we are traveling I like the fact that I can get the news from stations like Fox or CNN (I am a news junkie). When my husband travels alone he likes the comedy channels; they help keep him awake. There are tons of stations available and like a regular car radio you can program the radio to the ones you like the most. Depending on the radio you get if you don't have one pre installed, there are ones that are portable and you can use in the house. If you sign up for internet usage you can get Sirius on your computer or phone (with an app).

For me it was an easy choice and I have never looked back. We live in a rural area so some stations are not always clear.

I love the NASCAR channel. And, in the middle of a blizzard coming home from White Plains NY - a normally 90 minute drive, Fox News got me through the five hours it took to get home. I am not a big music person.

It came in my new car free for three months. I subscribed after the three months was up. We really like it. Especially on a long trip.

Re: sirius satellite radio-pros and cons

There are commercials on some Sirius stations..the news stations, comedy stations are too. Also, if you call and say you want to cancel, because the price is too low, they slash it. I pay around $4.00/month. It is prepaid for 6 months. I have a reminder set on my phone to call at the end, otherwise the price goes up.
