The other tablets are close in price to an Ipads. We have an 'old' iPad and iPhones....we love the apps much more than the Android ones...they are the 'same', but 'different'....That said...I have been watching a Samsung tablet at Costco that is so far above the iPad in picture quality....I think it is the Samsung Tab S ''Octa Core'' but it is only 10.5" ....I'll probably stay with Apple products, but I am tempted...costwise they're about the same

I love my Android Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and also love my Apple iPad gen 4. For my purposes I prefer the Android as my phone but the iPad as my tablet. I don't know much about the new iPhones and iPads that were just released out or will come out later this year but the Android cameras up until now have been much better. I use my Samsung phone as my camera and it takes great pics!
I also own an android Kindle Color HD and hate it as a tablet. I use it just as my reader and for Web browsing if my DH ""steals"" my iPad. I doubt I will ever buy a ""reader"" again and will just use iPads as readers and tablets.
I purchased the Samsung tablet that was the new thing in Fall 2013 at the same time I purchased my iPad. I set them both up and used them for two days. Hands down the iPad was faster and maintained the WiFi connection in my house MUCH better. Web browsing is my main purpose for a tablet. For me the iPad wins as a tablet.
So I think it depends on what you really want to use your tablet for. Ask a SA or maybe tell us here on the board what you want to do with the tablet and that might make a difference in the recommendations.

thank you for that great information you are the 4th person that told me that apple ipad is lot quicker than the samsung so i think im gonna go with my first thought was the apple ipad.
i will use it for travel and for just surfing the web and checking email shopping and use at home just laying around in bed and don't have to handle my heavy labtop. i plan on getting a mini apple.

Bequeen, I'm sure you will enjoy it!
All, I forgot to mention that for some people that SD card slot (not available in iPads) can be a big deal. It gives you extra storage for things like documents, photos, videos right on the device (via that SD card.) But MOST people really don't need that. If you use cloud storage (Apple's and/or one or more of many other options) you probably don't need a lot of file storage like that anymore.
If you use a separate digital camera that SD card slot DOES come in handy to move your pics from the camera to the tablet. But I have friends who tell me there is a device you can buy that will do the same with your iPad, if it's a big deal for you.
If you have an iPhone your pics from the iPhone should be in the Cloud and then they are easily available to your iPad as well.

be careful about which iPad... they discontinue support on older modes, l think the iPad 2 is scheduled... you can also buy a refurbished iPad direct from apple and they will give you six payments too.... check it out...or on a 'new' one. The warranty is excellent

Thanks for the info... We have an elderly iPad and a Lenovo tablet... Lenovo gives you a lot of value for the money usually. Google I have never been a fan of...ranks right up there with my "Kindle Fire" ...NOT a good tablet. Great picture but apps are the issue.... It usually comes down to 'easy-pay' (but they give you a lot of 'items' you do not need to drive the price up) ...and Apple has their own 'easy pay' as do many places if you ask. The other issue is Android or Apple apps....there is a difference, and some are only available as an Apple app... Thanks for the info on the Lenovo!
