read the reviews at Amzn

I believe their file format is proprietary and will not play well with other established ones such as excel etc.

Sounds good but..... I looked at it before

I have had it for about 2 years.  I really like it but yes, I think you will have to keep using it.  You can export out documents but I'm not sure that you can transfer and use the whole database without the Neat software.  (Or I sure don't know how.)

There is a glitch with the new Mac software that Neat is working on.  They have versions for Windows and Mac.  I thought mine had broken when it couldn't detect the scanner all of a sudden, but found they suggested a temporary fix while they work on a permanent fix. Hope they really do.

I decided to go paperless and scan any mail or documents that I need to keep.  I have to make sure that I have multiple backups just in case.  I personally do not want to use their cloud service for a fee.

I don't think it does a very good job of always automatically pulling out information from the scan (to catagorize and search) so I do usually have to add a little info to the scan to make sure I can search out the doc.  I usually add a title to include a company name and a few search words.  I have created folders that I drag the docs into.

I read through all of the reviews that I could find before I purchased.  I am satisfied with it for my purposes--just household stuff. I like the small size of the scanner.  Did not purchase from HSN--Best Buy.

I have the wand version of Neat and like it.  As posted, there is a conflict between the Neat software and Macs running El Capitan.  There is an update you can install and everything works again.  I also thought my scanner had failed when my iMac didn't recognize it.

I use the PDF option when scanning if it's something I need to share.  I'm remodeling a house and scan the receipts as PDFs for later use.  Other receipts, I scan using the regular Neat option.
