Definitely a Kindle. Barnes and Noble sometimes has financial issues, and I think Amazon will be around longer. I have both and I like the Kindle series better. If you want to go on the net, you need a Fire for the color. Paperwhite and the e-reader Kindles are black and white--WONDERFUL for reading, but not so much for net and color photos.

I have a kindle HD. It does everything I need it to do and more. Can read books, surf the internet, play games. I'm typing from it now. I use it all the time and don't know how I got along without it. I have no experience with a nook. My kindle was a Christmas gift two years ago.

BUY FROM AMAZON, they should have deals on them now and then. Sometimes local stores have deals--check the newspapers. QVC will throw in stuff you don't need and charge a lot of money for them.

I have two Kindles and love them. Never even considered Nook ... I'm an Amazon fan.

I buy from Amazon ... wouldn't consider buying anywhere else.

My family decided on the nook. So far, we are very pleased. I really hope Barnes and Noble survives against the virtual behemoth.

hdx: costs $90 more, higher resolution, processor is 2.2 GHz (versus the 1.5 GHz on the hd), a little longer battery life, built-in microphone, available in 4G, front facing HD camera, more storage available (64 GB), weighs slightly less than the hd, & an on-device "May Day" button if you need customer support. You can go to Amazon and search "Kindle Fire" and see a side-by-side comparison chart.

I haven't a clue about either but my very tech savvy daughter is a big fan of the Nook
