iTUNES - PC TO MAC

I'm sure this should be easy, but everything I read online just makes it more confusing for me. My PC has had its last days. My husband bought me a Mac computer and I would like to be able to sync my iPod to the new MAC. I've already saved my iTunes music library from the PC to an external hard drive. This is where I get confused. I realize the info saved to the external hard drive now needs to be saved onto the MAC, but where and then what's next? Anyone with experience doing this or know of easy step-by-step directions I can be directed to?

Appreciate any help you can give. Thanks in advance.
