iPhone settings to get email

What settings should I have on my phone to hear when I have a new email right away?

I have gone to Settings>Mail Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Push.

I have to open the phone to check for new emails.

I have tried everything I can think of...

Notifications>mail turn on notifications and then choose the sound you want it to use under each email account listed below.

JaxsMom, I have that on already. It's set to Ding. It only Dings when the phone is opened. When it's locked, I don't hear anything. I want it to Ding when it's locked. I hope I'm making sense

You may have your phone on "do not disturb".  I accidentally do that all the time.  If you pull the control screen up from the bottom, it's the little crescent moon shaped icon.  If you have that on, your phone will only ring, etc if it's unlocked.  Drove me crazy one day until I finally googled and found that out.  HTH

What do you mean locked?  If it's off, you won't get a notification.

Re: iPhone settings to get email

What I mean by "locked" is when the screen is black.  It's on, but the screen is black.

Anyway, thanks for your help.  I figured out what was wrong.

My battery power was in the low 30s so I was in low battery mode.  As soon as I had a full charge, my emails made the "ding" sound without me having to go into the phone.

I didn't even realize that.  I just got this phone on Wednesday, and I have been fooling around with the settings.

Thank you. Smiley Happy

I'm glad you figured it out.  BTW,  it's very important to know and use the right terminology when asking a question or searching for an answer.  Having you phone in the standby mode or sleep is not called locked and is why I asked the question.  This is not a criticism just a FYI.
