Is there anyone who knows how to get rid of the onscreen keyboard while using either an iPad or iPhone?  I don't need a lecture about outdated devices or advice to go to the Apple store.  Thanks.

@gadgetgal613, since your friend has both an iPhone and an iPad, she can make and receive phone calls from her iPad if they are on the same Apple ID and WiFi. If the keyboard issue is on her iPhone, she should call Apple at 800-275-2273 on her iPad and that way she can follow what they tell her to fix the problem. Just have her make sure that the Apple info is in her contacts. To be able to call or iMessage on her iPad, she needs to go to Settings>Cellular>Calls on other devices >turn on and turn on the other device. For iMessage, go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding>turn on iPad.

I know that this doesn't fix her keyboard issue, but Applecare should be able to help.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help.  All I want to know is how to get rid of the onscreen keyboard.  She doesn't need it for her iPad since she uses a bluetooth keyboard.

My sister has an iPhone 6. The battery is shot and will hold a charge about 10 minutes. She will need to shop soon. It is what it is.

Did you do a Google search for help? Apple does have a help forum.

LOL, I have a Samsung tablet with a bug in Google. It may never be fixed since the tablet doesn't receive any more updates and is a older device. This is what it is.

You do not live  near an Apple store.

The closest Apple store is a 2-3 hour drive.  I tried swiping up, down, left and right and nothing would move the onscrean keyboard out of the way.  I did multiple searches before posting here and didn't find anything which worked.  We were trying to log into iCloud, the onscreen keyboad popped up to enter the password and the keyboard blocked the option "forgot password" which is what we needed to select.  We were stuck because the keyboard was blocking the screen.

Like I previously posted, I no loger have an iPad and I almost never do anything technical on my phone.  I just want to know what I can do to move or get rid of the onscrean keyboard should it become necessary in the future.  Thanks.

I'm relatively new to iPhone & iPad; I personally never experienced this problem. However, have you tried signing on to iCloud from your computer? (icloud.com) You put in your Apple ID and have an option for your password or forget password.

You cannot "remove" the iPad or iPhone keyboard, but you can disable it. I googled "How to disable iPhone keyboard" and found this in one minute. Your search to remove was unsuccessful because there is no such technique. It stays in the phone but can be rendered unavailable for use

here are explicit instructions with screen shots as well as written steps.  click the link, follow the steps. It works the same for iPhone and iPad, any model, and version of the operating system.

I'm sure this answers your question. Hope to read you were successful. Don't leave us all wondering!

I'll send the link to my friend.  I've been using Apple products since 2012, there are things about them which really irritate me and this is one.  To have a popup which covers 1/2 of the screen, you can't move or get rid of it is a terrible design.  I did find if your iPad is connected to a bluetooth keyboard, you can disable the onscreen keyboard completely.

My friend is 89 years old, not computer savvy and stuff like this really upsets her.  She was on the phone with tech support and this step, not being able to select the choice "forgot password",  prevented her from fixing the problem.

Just an FYI, not everyone has an Apple store nearby.  As I posted earlier, the closest one to me is either in Chicago or Indianapolis.  It's one of the reasons to buy Apple Care.  It's  especially true for those who aren't able to fix their tech problems.

@gadgetgal613 With the on-screen keyboard full sized tap the keyboard down button on the lower right corner of the on-screen keyboard. This is for the iPad.

I'll pass this on.  Thanks.
