I am no computer wiz, but in my experience you can send a compressed file using WinZip. There is a free option and I have used it often.

Also be careful since some places block zip files. I know at my last job the servers never let them through and if I know one had been sent I had to contact IT to get it released.

How big is the file you're sending? Wetransfer.com - free to send up to 2gb file. Or use Dropbox. They offer a free account to store up to 2gb. You can share the file(s) just by emailing a link.
