help please. aqua screen where white should be

would someone be able to explain to me (very simply because i am technically challenged lol) why i have an lite aqua screen where it used to be white and when I type it is black lettering with a "shadow" of white still on the aqua background. and the pics on the screen are sort of pixelated.

I have tried restarting, and system restore and nothing. This happened before and somehow went back to normal, but I dont know how

Ive also tried to change properties by right clicking on desktop, but i dont see where or how to change this problem.

any help would be greatly appreciated. I 've asked on other sites, but the explanations were to technical for me...
