computer people: need sign in help

I have a MacBook Pro and use Firefox. recently I have been having an issue signing in to a website. when I put in my password and click submit, it keeps returning to the sign in page, asking me to enter my password. when I go to Safari I have no problem signing in using my password. I even logged in to this website using Safari and changed my password, thinking that it would solve the problem but when I went back to the website via Firefox I still could not sign in.

what's the diagnosis and the fix, please?

Re: computer people: need sign in help

Hi, Mochahoney. I'm sorry you're having a problem. It would help to know which website, since it appears it's isolated to only one -- if you'd rather not say which one, can you access their "Contact Us" information to see if they're having a problem on their site? There's also a great website, GetHuman.com, that provides good contact info for companies and websites.

I suppose it could involve some of your Firefox preferences, or perhaps an add-on, but those likely would affect more than one website login.

There's probably something else I'm not thinking of... maybe other posters could add more ideas.

dooBdoo, it's the ShopHQ website. no problem with any other site. this happened before several months ago, and then just suddenly wasn't a problem any more. now it's back.

Thanks! I tried it with my Mac and had no problems. Did you clear cookies and cache, then quit Firefox and relaunch it? Also, are you running the current version of Firefox, v. 27.0.1?

Re: computer people: need sign in help

I'm running Firefox 26.0 I don't clear cookies and cache for 2 reasons: 1) I really don't know how and 2) it's my understanding ( or misunderstanding) that doing so erases all your saved passwords for your frequently visited website. obviously, I am no computer expert.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}.

Since you're running v. 26.0, you need to update the Firefox software to the latest version. Clearing cookies and cache won't remove the saved passwords. (Be sure you've checked "Remember passwords for sites" in the Firefox, Preferences, Security settings.) I clear cookies, cache and history at least once a day on my iMac, iPad and iPhone.

To remove cookies in Firefox, open Firefox Preferences, Privacy, click on Show Cookies, then Remove All Cookies.

I updated to Firefox 27.1 and then went to ShopHQ and was able to log in with no password problems! I have no idea why this apparently fixed the problem. but about clearing cookies and cache: what are they and why should I clear them ? what's the purpose? does it improve how the computer functions? does not clearing them slow down a computer?

I think they slow down the computer & track you & save things on your computer you wouldn't want to keep there. I found this for Firefox.

Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer

How to clear the Firefox cache
