? about using my Kindle while plane is in flight

Hate to sound so dopey, but next time I fly (once a year) I will take my Kindle. It's 3g witIh a keyboard, got it last Christmas and I love it.l Can I use this while in the air? do I turn off the wireless or not?

I always fly Alaska and they announce when you can turn on your wireless device but of course, I never have paid attention. Thank you for your patience and any help you can give me!
