Within the last few days I have no longer been able to open files that were saved as Word docs without buying Office. These documents were previously listed as Word but now are listed as DOCX File. I suspect that the Microsoft Word Starter that was preinstalled on my Gateway laptop has expired. I wasn't aware that it was for a limited time, but it seems like it is 2 yrs. from my date of purchase. My problem is that these docs are all work done for my SO's college courses. I'm wondering if it is worth it to spend the money now on a 2 yr.old laptop. Would some of you tech savvy folks on this board either confirm my suspicions and/or offer any suggestions. I would be most appreciative.
