Hey guys ... I need some more advice & trust your opinions. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I have a new desktop but I'm working on getting my old desktop cleaned up to give it to a relative. It has XP Pro SP2 on it so I was going to do a reinstall to wipe everything out, then load a few programs & games for them. Problem is, I discovered my disk is bad so it won't work. So then I decided to just remove a bunch of programs/files & leave it at that, but I had recently started getting an "Application Error" when starting the PC. I don't want to just leave it like that as the research I've done said it can lead to lots of problems.
I have found in a Google search that there are lots of downloadable programs that claim to fix these errors but I have no idea what to trust & if they really do work ... FixCleaner, SmartPCFixer & PC Helper 360 to name a few. I know someone on here mentioned CCleaner in the past. Does this help application errors & is it a free download?
My other option is to find another XP Pro SP2 OEM disk & use my key code. Will that work? I'm not even having much luck finding a replacement disk (MS said they discontinued), ebay doesn't have much except one for refurbished PC's (says it's OEM) but not sure if it would work & don't want to spend the money if it won't.
What are your suggestions? Thanks again everyone!
