I love mine. I have been wearing it since last Feb. It does keep you motivated and shames you when you are not very active. Works for me and I don't really notice i have it on.

I am probably in the minority, but I do not like the fit bit and will never own another.
I had 3 of them. The first one stopped charging after about 2 months. I replaced it and that one wouldn't even hold a charge. I took it back and got a replacement. That one worked for a month and a half before it quit holding a charge. I will say that the actual Fit Bit site customer service was good helping me return it as I did not purchase from them. But for something that expensive to quit working in less than 60 days--no thanks.
As for the tracking--it did help because you can sync it with your phone (Android was my phone) and track sleep, food, active minutes and I did like to get that 10000 steps to get it to vibrate and do its 'dance'.
Nike makes one that reminds you to get up every hour and tracks some of the same things, but it is more expensive.
To answer your first question, no it wasn't worth the money to me and I'm still plugging away at my goal, one day at a time.
