Wireless printer won't print

[ Edited ]

About a week ago I was having problems connecting to the Internet.  Comcast told me that I had to change my WiFi password since we had never done that after getting a new modem a few years ago.  Since then I now can't print on my wireless printer.  I've tried re-connecting it to my network so I can change it to the new password but the connection keeps timing out.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Check your Network Settings and make sure the Network profile is set on Private.

How to:

Open Network & Internet Settings from Settings.

Under Status click Change connection properties.

Under Network select Private.

Re: Wireless printer won't print

Most wireless printers now-a-days you can set up network & password directly from the printer.  You do not indicate if that is what you are trying to do.

Have you tried the suggestions from the printer user manual under the troubleshooting section?

Gone to the manufacturer customer service technical help website for troubleshooting suggestions?

Checked to see if you need to update your driver(s)

If still under warranty, called the manufacturer?

I agree with Mz imac.  After turning my computer off and on, and my printer off and on, and seeing that the printer appears in the printer dialogue box, but that i couldn't print, I would google the problem, naming the brand and model number of my printer, and the type of computer (mac or pc).  Good luck!

For me, when I had to do this with my Canon printer, I had to move my printer near the router and plug it in so that it recognized it and then I could disconnect it and use it wirelessly.

This happens when I get a new TiVo, too.  I sometimes have to plug it in so that it is recognized.

You'll need to get onto your printer settings and change the network password.  I wouldn't be surprised if you have to go to your printer's setup and start over.

People in the tech business should know better than to tell people to change their router password and not tell them they have to reconnect all of their devices.,  Shame on them!!!  Every time I get a new router, I give it the same name and password so I don't have to reconnect my devices.  I've had the same password (very long and a combination of upper/lower case letters and numbers) and have never been hacked.

@FranandZoe, There are so many things that might do the trick, and the other posters have offered great suggestions.   In case you still have the problem, I'll add a comment.    You don't say if this is Comcast's equipment, but since they are involved I'd suggest that you try using their support forums.   There are many threads there about connections being dropped, often the contributors offer specific step-by-step technical assistance, and also if you don't find helpful info you could start a new discussion.

Just search for "Xfinity Support Community" or use this link (you'll need to copy and paste, since I'm a little wary of posting certain "clickable" links that might be seen as retail sites):
