I have windows vista 64 bit and have been very happy with it for some time until this last week or so .I have looked all over trying to get an answer but I can't . Hope there is someone who can clarify or help with this I am a dumb dumb with tech stuff so.....

Did you reboot between installations?

It happens to me, too. I give it a try or two (and I do the reboot), but they never install and eventually the "!" sign on the icon giving me notice they're available goes away.

Shut down and restart ... Sometimes software needs the reboot to install.

Reboot means to shut down your computer and then restart it.

Did you recently uninstall a program? The updates may be looking for something that is no longer there.

If you see this again and you "know it has updated" try to uninstall the update or do a "restore" back to before you installed the last update. Then, if you think it is an update that is critical to security, install it again.

I get many Window Updates and I only install the ones I think are necessary for security or something other that I know I need/want on my system. Sounds like it doesn't "install automatically", so that part and setting is a good thing. If you know you have it installed and it keeps coming up? Do what I do which is ignore it.

Re: Windows Updates Are Installing Over and Over Again and Again

I had Windows Vista and on New Years Day faced no security with Essentials. and no way to update. Took me hours to finally update security so I could go online. I knew that Vista was so outdated, but never got an out date like the XP folks got. So I hooked up the new computer with win. 7 that sat in a corner for a year as did not ever want Win. 8. So easily got the new computer set up and wish I did it sooner. Windows 7 is great. Would only like Win. 8 on a phone or tablet, not a desktop. Win 7 with IE 11 is pretty great.
