Windows 8 activation key on my HP Pavillion

Purchased this laptop a little over a year ago. It crashed the other day and we had to use the HP RESTORE manager to bring it back to life. In the process it says our Windows 8 product key is no longer valid. Called Microsoft and they can't help without the key. The key is supposedly embedded in the computer somewhere. Anyone else have this problem?

I've never had to enter a product key number when doing a factory restore on any HP computer I've owned. I've restored 4 since I either gave them away or sold them. Did you look at the sticker on the side or bottom of the computer?

Well I can certainly tell you something on your end is wrong because the key is embedded in the bios on windows 8 and I've never come across a machine restored that had to be reactivated. But nonetheless, a 2 second search of this wonderful new invention called google would have saved you a day of your life... http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/where-do-i-find-the-windo...

Windows 8 DOES NOT USE stickers anymore. Again, two seconds of your life on google would tell you this.
