On January 10 I did a final Windows update and got the end of support notice. I didn't expect the Microsoft Outlook mail program to immediately stop working.

I can go to the Outlook website and get my mail there, as well as on my phone and my Windows 10 desktop. But I still use this old laptop a lot because I'm so used to it.

Does anyone with Windows 8.1 still have working Outlook? Did anyone convert the 8.1 to Windows 10? How did that go?

I'm still running Windows 7 on my laptop - no issues whatsoever.  (I have a Windows 10 desktop, iPad and phone "just in case.")

@FranandZoe   Someone is using my old Windows 7 desktop with no problems. This 8.1 end of service seems very different.

Outlook can get a bit glitchy at times. I'd try redownloading it on the 8.1 computer and see if that fixes the issue. You should be able to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 without much trouble. Updating to 11 would likely be problematic.

@gardenman    I went to Google Play Store, to Microsoft Outlook to reload. It wouldn't let me do it. It wouldn't recognize my laptop or let me re-enter the laptop as a different device.

I've been doing everything I know to do except post on Outlook community since January 10. I keep thinking about the scene in Fiddler on the Roof where Tevye says to his daughter who is leaving to marry a non-Jewish man, "From now on you are dead to me."

I would not feel safe using older versions of Windows OSs. They are full of security holes.

@SilleeMee   Not only are you 100% correct, it appears you are also psychic. I just received an alert from my credit card that my hacker, who has been plaguing me with fraudulent cable bill charges for over a year, got my NEW account number and put through a $210 charge. It was declined only because we blocked any charges from the two specific cable companies he uses.

This may not have anything to do with Microsoft Outlook, but ..... good grief.

I have been using Windows 8.1.  I have tried repeatedly to upgrade to a newer Windows version but it will not allow me to do so.  I use Windows Live Mail 2012 for my email.  So far, everything is still working.  I dread having to get a new desktop computer and then try to get all my old programs to work.

Many older computers cannot be upgraded to using newer versions of Window OSs simply b/c older computers do not have the hardware inside them to handle the upgrades. Buying a new computer will solve that problem and when that one gets to be around 5yo or older then it's time to start thinking about another new one. Technology is always changing and old stuff becomes obsolete and unsafe to use. I try not to spend a lot of money on new technology b/c just in a few years I will replace it with something new and updated.

Still using my old Windows 7. Didn't put in the latest updates and it still does everything I need it to do. Haven't a clue what year updates ended because I seldom did updates. Would read what they were and only updated ones I was pretty sure wouldn't mess up my system.
