Which e-reader

I have finally decided to buy an e-reader and thought I wanted a Kindle. I am so confused looking at them. I was only looking to read books but there doesn't seem to be anything basic. I was leaning toward a Kindle Paperwhite but there are none left in the stores. They tell me they have been recalled yet they still show up on the Amazon Site. Any help would be appreciated.
