craigslist or eBay.
If you have a shop in town that still carries LPs or cassettes, someone there will want it. In my town there's a very dedicated record collectors group who would fight over it!

I quit listening to music ages ago due to my tinnitus. I guess I held on to them, hoping that someday, the tinnitus would go away, but obviously that isn't going to happen.
Don't think anyone would want to buy them, or would even accept them as donations. So, how do I get rid of them? Would appreciate any suggestions. Also looking for advice on how to get rid of old cassette tapes, CDs, and vinyl 45s and albums. I hate to part with them--I used to love listening to all my music--but can't stand it now because of the noise in my ear. Thanks for any help.

My stereo was almost 30 years old when I sold it a few years ago. I found two young guys in Brooklyn who bought, refurbished and re-sold stereo equipment. He didn't accept any pieces that were badly scratched or dinged, so they had to be in good condition in that respect. My components were very expensive when I bought them...Linn Kann II mini speakers, NEC receiver, and a CD player which I don't remember the brand. I thought I'd give it a try, and I got only $125 for it, but after so many years, I certainly got my initial money's worth out of it. I wanted to upgrade to a Bose, so I put that $125 towards the Bose. A good, professional selling experience. I was surprised anyone would want it at all. I would have otherwise donated it if these two fellows didn't want it.

Keep them, because they don't make things with the quality they did back then. Be patient with treatments for tinnitus.

Check around your area for music stores that buys LPs, CDs, stereos, etc.
The one in my area is called Tunes.
I moved 3 yrs ago & had to downsize. I sold my older than dirt turntable/radio/cassette as well as 500+ LPs. I kept 2 of the LPs though since I didn't make a CD for them.
Anywho, it took the sales person 45 minutes to look through my LP's. They check the condition of the album covers as well as the LPs. I walked out of Tunes w/a $500 check! I was flabbergasted to say the least. I expected no more than $10.

So many years ago! It was way back in 1989 when we relocated from West Coast.
We sold all the records to a vintage / used music store, along with the components. They even took the 8-track tapes. We had a awful lot of 33s, 45s and 78s!
I think they gave us $1 a piece at the time ... better than trashing the stuff.

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I found just a couple of places where I live that might be interested in the stereo components. Might not get much for them, but that's OK. Not sure what to about my music though. Maybe one of these places will know if there's any shop around here that will buy those items. Would go on eBay, but don't wish to bother with the shipping. Hope I'm as lucky as Mz iMac if I do find an interested party.
After my initial posting, I briefly thought about changing my mind and keeping my stuff, but later that same day, my tinnitus really acted up. So, I'm sticking to my plans and getting rid of about all of it. There may be better treatments someday-as flpsy mentioned, but I've already dealt with this for eight years, so I'm letting most of the music go (might keep a few favorites in case there is ever a cure).
(Alicedee--thanks for the kind words. I appreciate them.)

List them on eBay and expect to get a fortune... I'm not kidding.

I might be interested in the LPS, would even pay for them. Is there a way you can contact me?

Hi @Brooklynny. I'm in the city. Do they have a storefront business? If so, can you drop a name? I have a couple of dual cassette decks and a couple of 4-track cassette recorders in great condition. It's a shame to just throw them out, but it's old technology. I though about ebay, but that's too involved for me right now. Thanks. :-)

I would donate it to a local charity.
