What is the process a laptop goes through?

New customer and am curious what the process is from after placing the order until I receive it. I have looked through the forums and see a lot of different things some of which seem conflicting.
I just ordered a Dell laptop. Use it as an example.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, @Bad Wolf,

If your question has to do with the status of your order, you can check that online in the My Account feature under the heading of All Orders    You will receive an email and/or text when the order is shipped (if you have registered for notifications - also in the My Account feature under the heading of Communication Preferences).  Depending on how the item is shipped, a tracking number is usually provided, also

I wouldn't order a computer from a shopping network, BUT I've read a zillion threads about it here over the years and, as far as how long it takes - it sounds like it takes a while.

If you need it very quickly, you might want to re-consider.

Last one I purchased was at Amazon, so I had it in two days.  It was also brand new technology, too, unlike what you'll get here and a lot less expensive.  Smiley Happy

Re: What is the process a laptop goes through?

@chickenbuttI did order aDell from QVC once.  I don't remember how the delivery went, but I don't remember being upset either, so it was probably my usual 4-5 days to wait.  That laptop was my only computer for 5 or 6 years and I got great Dell tech service the one time I needed to call.  I'd order again if I needed and the price was right.

By the way -one of the tech gadgets I bought which I really don't much like is my Amazon Kindle Fire.  Nothing about my experience with it makes me ever want to buy another when this one dies -  although I might buy one of their dedicated readers.  Still, Amazon lost its magic with me when I bought that Kindle.

I now realize that the process is not what I was expecting. I'm not complaining. I was just wondering what goes on during the order. Do they have the laptops in inventory or do they drop ship them? Found out the ones that I ordered are discontinued so was wondering where they come from.
Just something to pass the time in between the 80 checks of the page to see if anything changed.

Re: What is the process a laptop goes through?

If the computer is a Today's Special Value sale, I believe that the order goes to Dell, who then makes and ships the computer. You'll get tracking information from QVC, but the computer is shipped by Dell and it takes longer than a normal QVC order. (A normal QVC order takes 7-14 days to arrive.)

I am not sure of the process if the computer is not a TSV. Have you contacted customer service to ask them? You can also try posting in the Customer Care forum. Most of these forums are consumers chatting, but the QVC reps will answer questions in the Customer Care forum.

A lot of first time QVC shoppers buy electronics at QVC because of the Easy Pay option. I've noticed that this question comes up frequently about either a computer OR a console gaming system and it's always a first-time poster asking the question. They get confused when the item doesn't show up in 3-5 days because they're used to Amazon and other online stores with much faster shipping. It's a common theme I see over and over.

Re: What is the process a laptop goes through?

I'm not posting because I'm upset. It's not a ridiculous amount of time and I see no reason to bother anyone at this point in time. I am just antsy. I am a computer hobbyist who could never afford a new computer and has never had a laptop. All of my repaired computers (think made with Windows XP) have died a horrible prolonged death. The lure of easy pay for a nice semi recent model spurred the ordering. Now I am all excited and have myself ocding because I have gotten spoiled with Amazon, so you are all correct in your profiling.
Not unhappy, just exited.
I asked about where they get them because right after I ordered I noticed it was last generation model which Dell no longer sells. While it is a great computer the new model of it has some features I wish I could have had.

Forgot to mention that I also ordered one for my wife, so there's that.

Re: What is the process a laptop goes through?

Hey Wolf!  Well, it's probably good that it is a 'not brand new' model so I'd like to think that it is warehoused here and that would contribute to you receiving it more quickly.

Generally, especially with a TSV, as CB said, these things ARE drop-shipped from China.    With QVC that seems to take quite a bit of time.

Hopefully, soon, you will get a tracking number and you can start hoping to see it soon!  Smiley Happy
