What have they done to my *&%$# gmail?

They say they have a new look. So I figured its inevitable, I might as well switch now. So over the last couple of days they have removed the ikons at the top, taken away my contact list, and I can now see only about 15 emails on my first page, not 50, and no subsequent pages. In the help section, they say mouse over something and it will give you a gear to make that section expand. Well, it doesn't. I feel betrayed. Can anyone help?
