@RINGER wrote:Not sure I stated that right but I have a fairly good collection of DVD's which I love. Now when VCR's/combo are no longer available, HOW DO I PLAY WHA I HAVE????
I was shocked today when I found out Best Buy no longer repairs VCR combos which of course I play my DVD's.
Let me know your thoughts but I am not going to sell them or try streaming. I just want to be able to play the DVD's I have and like I said, when I can't buy VCR/combos what do I do????
Thanks for any insights on this! (I am 78 and not good with electronic thingys)

Why do you need a combo unit to play your DVDs? I must be missing something. If you want to want to watch DVDs, buy a new DVD player.

I either donated or threw away all of my VHS tapes long ago. I guess sometime in the future it will be the same for the DVD's.

Who uses a VCR to tape TV? That technology is so old and the quality so poor, why bother. Give it up and get a DVR. People who hang onto old technology and don't keep up always lose in the end.

That is NOT true! I hang on to old technology. Why git rid of old working technology? I have the BEST of BOTH worlds.
I have 2 VCR/DVD combos. You can record/play on the DVD as well as the VCR part. On the DVD side, you can even record & play MP3s.
The VCR quality is NOT poor. You cannot tell the difference between a VCR & DVD recordings. My combos are Toshiba & Sony both over 20 yrs old. Both are just like that pink energizer rabbit. Just keeps going & going.......
FWIW....
Best Buy, Walmart, K-Mart & Target still sell combos in my neck of the woods. As well as DVDs & CDs.
Sears in my hood no longer sells electronics.

I have some VCR tapes that I can't replace with DVD's. Elvis Pressley's Kissin Cousins, Barbara Streisands Funny Girl and On a Clear Day. Are DVD's really going extinct? I havn't heard. I, too understand the very simple, such as, I have a flip phone and still use a check book.

Yes you can. Google "how to transfer vhs tapes to dvd?"

Not in our lifetime or your grands.
