What Should I Set My Cable Box On For The Picture On My TV

I had TWC at my house today because I was having trouble with my DVR cable box. He replaced it and set it up for me. He put the setting for the picture at stretch and not normal. I have a 50" HD TV. My understanding is stretch can distort the picture. Should I keep at the stretch setting or change it to normal?

@Jordan2-----Does your remote have a button that says ====HD ZOOM  or ASPECT?  Ours has the HDZoom and 3 settings   NORMAL   ZOOM and STRETCH. Just hit the button until it shows what setting you want.  Once you get the hang of it you will find it fun to change the setting.  Hope this helps------tedEbear

This should be an easy fix using your hand held control.  Look at the keypad.  Underneath 9 is a button labeled Aspect.  Press it to change the screen configuration, from Stretch to Zoom to Normal.  (As long as your control is the same as mine, this will work for you). Good luck!

If you have HD cable service, and are watching HD channels, the full screen (it's called 'Full' on mine) will be appropriate and nothing will be stretched.

If you have SD service, then it will probably look best in the 'panel' setting or whatever the one that is cinched in (not widescreen).

The 'panel' setting will also apply if you are watching some of the SD channels that show just old shows that were done in SD.

Also, you should be able to tell which setting looks best by just scrolling through them.

Okay, I can tell you what settings I have selected. Aspect Ratio at 16x9, Output Resolution at 1080I, and Picture Size at stretch, but there is an option of zoom and normal. I think the default setting on the box is normal. My other cable boxes are set at normal and am wondering if I should change it, or maybe the cable guy knows better than I do.

I have several TV's but control them by the Cable buttons.  I push the HD ZOOM button on the Cable remote.  It goes through different modes but I stop at the one that says HD Normal.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I decided to just set the picture to normal. I've been watching that way on my other tvs and it's been fine.
