This is happening on my iPhone as well @Tinkrbl44 , I just mentioned this to a friend and she is having the same issue. I've tried resetting it, turnining it off and back on and it seems like 50 other things but nothing makes a difference. Then yesterday it all started working . . . today nada.

@We rescue cats    Did you do last update. .  Cause that started everything on my phone. I need to take mine into shop. If I look at my texts certain people are silenced. I didn't do it. Can't undo it   Too old for this doo doo

I agree with you about being too old for this doo doo! I keep going into settings to re-set the Sounds and Haptics. I even went into Verizon to have them check it, 3 hours later and it worked for 2 days . . . maybe 3! The closest Apple Store is almost 2 hours from me. I use my watch as a reminder for everything, and I miss relying on it. I usually check my glucose every 2 or 3 hours, the alarm reminds me to do so when it is working, my endocrinologist loves those reports.
I've been told that these 'errors' happen as a way to convince users to update their phone, not sure it that is true or not but I truly hope it is not.

Re: WHY WOULD A NOTIFICATION SOUND STOP?

Did you check by going through the messages app? Hitting the settings icon, going to messages settings then notifications? Make sure it's not on silent there for some reason. I have mine also set to all of the notification types so I can see right from the lockscreen in case I don't hear the alert.

I do miss my original Samsung that had a little light when you had a notification.I know you can set the flashlight for that but that seems like a bit much. I liked that I didn't have to keep swiping my phone to see if I missed messages. You could just take a quick glance at your phone from across the room and know.

90% of the time when someone tells me this is happening, they have their DND on.  It's very easy to accidentally hit it on an iPhone because it's part of the control center you can swipe for on the Home Screen.  I don't know how it happens on a Samsung but it should be fairly easy to find, as here's one response

This happens on my iPhone too. Who knows why.

I usually just adjust my sound level and it starts working again.

Check your settings to be sure something didn't change.

I read everything posted here and investigated the Settings ... again.

Couldn't find anything to adjust, so I didn't change a thing.

This morning, it's working again.  Go figure.  Woman LOL

Re: WHY WOULD A NOTIFICATION SOUND STOP?

I'd be rich and famous if I could figure that out. It's happened to me, intermittently, with every brand phone I've had. Like everyone, I check every setting and there's nothing amiss. Then I resort to sending myself a "dummy" text from someone else's phone to see if it's working again, with the question of why it stopped working never answered. Very strange, indeed.

@Moonlady

You're spot on .... people would definitely pay money to get that bug worked out.

Definitely, lol.

Here's a head scratcher ...

My phone is the Samsung Galaxy A15.

I have a few notifications for texts, Ebay, etc, etc.  Different sounds chosen for different apps.

Suddenly my texts no longer sound the chosen alert when I receive one.  I just discovered I have received 23 unread texts in the past five days!  Woman Surprised

Nothing else is affected.  I changed the chosen alert sound, and it doesn't matter.

Texts are sneaking in ... silently.

What could be causing this to happen?

@Tinkrbl44

I was so irritated yesterday after spending so much time the last few days fixing this only to have it work for 3 or 4 text messages.  I decided I was going to rid myself of the Iphone and get a Samsung only to read and find out that Samsung has the problem also. They are always adding new features to entice you to buy newer yet this basic feature continues to be so problematic with many phones.

Funny you mention this. My iPhone hasn't been alerting me for two days...texts and phone calls. Couldn't figure it out.  I tried turning it off and on to reset it, but it didn't help.  When I went to my settings, I found the volume turned all the way to the left...off.  So I turned it back up and now it's okay.

I just remembered, yesterday I turned my ringer off when I was on a Zoom call.  I turned it back on, but it seems this always happens when I turn the ringer off then back on.  Maybe it's a bug they need to work on.

Re: WHY WOULD A NOTIFICATION SOUND STOP?

@shoekitty just saw your post, but yes, the phone and my watch are both up to date. Now the phone is notifying but my watch does not . . . . LOL! I think that Steve Jobs is haunting me.
