I have been using Windows Edge primarily, but have seen this on other browsers .... I'm not tech savvy.
Example ... I'm on a site and there is what can only be described as an "awning" of about 2 inches height that covers the top 2 inches of the screen. It covers what I want to see. Scrolling down, it continues to cover the top section, and I see nothing that indicates a way to remove this "covering".
First, does ANYONE know what I'm referring to?
If so, what is it and how do I make it go away?
TIA!!

You explained it very well...........I've only begun to use Edge when I have to - meaning the old windows is beginning to not be compatible with...i.e, bank websites and others.
No - so far haven't seen the awning but it could pop up tomorrow. Reboot and see if that helps - or hang in here - some smart tech person will know I'm sure.
Hate all these half working browsers!

I use Edge and have not really had thzt problem. what you decribed is usually an ad or promo of some type. Sometimes they kind of hide the "x" that you need to click to make it disappear. It is frustrating when tbey hide tbe word "close" or an "x". I dont know, of course, if tbat is what you are experiencing without seeing it for myself.

I agree with @Goldengate8361, this is probably something that the website is pushing that you can't see or is not loading correctly. It could be a promo like qvc does sometimes, or a panel asking you to log on to go forward, or to sign up to receive their emails. I have 2 laptops that I use, an 11" macbook air and a 16" macbook pro. Sometimes those boxes appear on my 11" and I can't get through. I ususally just click the x to close the window, but if the box is big enough it can be positioned such that I can't see what it is or how to address the box that I just have to skip the website. I have also seen ads, as you scroll down, ads open up on the webpage, and if the computer is slow for some reason it can be frustrating because I just see a blank in the space being created for the ad in the page.

@Tinkrbl44 - I agree that it's some kind of ad or promotion. Sometimes, if you hover the cursor over it (around the corners) you'll see a hidden X appear, to close it.
In other cases, I've simply clicked on an area outside that ad (anywhere on the main screen) and it gets rid of it. Worth a try.

Yes. What I see is not an ad that can be removed.
It's much more noticeable when I enlarge the print. Hit the ctrl key and then mouse wheel forward.
It must be something designed into Edge because I never saw it on Internet Explorer.

I always use Edge and I'm not seeing anything like that. Just the address bar at the top. I'm on a desktop; don't know if that makes any difference.
(Without a screen print, it's hard to know what the OP is seeing.)

Is there maybe a way to minimizie it by hovering the cursor over the bottom "edge" (no pun intended) 'til you see a vertical line? And then moving it upwards?
