Using a phone for video recording

Question- I think I know the answer to:

Our friends’ daughter has a summer project and she needs to shoot some video to go with the project.  Long story short for myriad of reasons it is best to shot the video portions with an Apple product.

Can she purchase a cheap OLDER version of an iPhone and use it for just video recording?  No phone or data plan, just use it as a video camera and use wifi to send the recording to a computer for editing, etc?

We looked online and older iPhones (no contracts) are cheap.

Bonus question- is there a particular version on iPhone that is not new but great for video?

Thank you!

Re: Using a phone for video recording

I've used an iPhone since the 4 and can tell you that the older the phone, the less pixels there are in the pictures and videos, less pixels and less clarity.   I used an iPhone 5 for pictures to post on line for my eBay sales and they were actually pretty good.  Video from that era phone is good too IMHO.  I'm now at an iPhone 6+ and am blown away with the improvement in clarity.... good luck in your quest!  Woman Happy

It is possible to just borrow someone's for videotaping? So many, many people have iPhones.....someone might help her out this way.

Actually very few in this crowd are iPhone users, and she needs to take the phone with her 'on location' and very few people are willing to part with their phones for a few days.  For less than $100 you can buy an old iPhone and then her sister will use it for her project next year.

I have an iPod Nano 5th Generation w/Video.

Takes beautiful videos/movies.

You should check to see if they are still available.  Cheaper than an older version of an iPhone.

I have a iPod Touch. It takes great photos and will record nice video. This device can be used to play music.
