Over 20 years ago, my. Phone company,  Century Link, put a device on my phon3 that answers all calls before I hear a ring.  It tells the caller that this phone doesn't accept sales call and if it is a sales call, to hang up and add the number to the do not call list.

I get very few solicitations.  I do get a few calls with out of state area codes which I never pick up.

@mrshckynut  Thank you for that advice.  I passed on the info from SouthernBee and added your advice to it.  Hopefully my dear Joe can get the spam calls under control.  You ladies are great!

@Icegoddess : We started with Knology  and had some issues when changed to WOW. We tried Mediacom  and their phone service was down a lot, and we had not purchased any smart phones yet and needed a dependable land line.Went back to WOW and the local office had cleaned house and started with a better staff. No other issues and love WOW.

@SouthernBee You're the first person I've seen mention WOW.  We have WOW for both our internet and my husband's phone.  They bought out Knology, who we were with before.

We don't get a lot of Spam calls anymore.  Not sure why.  I got calls daily from Gutter Guard for a few years, but that was my fault in that I had signed up for a giveaway at the Home & Garden show.  They were the only vendor that insisted on calling over and over though.  I joked that they were checking my landline since it often goes down and I won't know until my husband goes out of town and tries to call me.  They finally stopped around the time of this year's Home & Garden show.  Funny, my phone line went down around that time too.  I'm still on copper wire landline, not VOIP.

@SouthernBee  This might be a silly question but are you talking about a landline phone? I have a friend in Wisconsin with a landline who gets lots of spam calls all day every day. I'd love to find a gadget or service that might help.

I'm in Wisconsin and if your friend has either spectrum or ATT they both have robo cop options that can be set up on the landline. My dad had spectrum and I was able to only allow certain phone numbers come through like in his case family members only. It was a godsend for him at the time. Not sure if ATT has that same option but I know they have call blockers. Hope this helps.

@SaveTheTurtles  I don't know how I missed your response, but thank you for it. My friend, Joe, in MKE has Spectrum. I've just passed on the info from your note. Joe and I appreciate the advice. Please forgive my delay in acknowledging your note.

What do you do when your internet goes down and the phone doesn't work since that is connected to the router?

Hello, no need to apologize. I am glad you found the info useful, if your friend is able to access his account online it is very easy to set up the call feature options. Thanks for responding to me. Good luck!
