Uh oh! This may be trouble. Need expert help!!

A pop-up that won't go away stating "Software Update Available." Just words with no logos or anything, and no way to delete it. Supposedly it a "new and improved Internet bowser." One cannot right click on it, the only available box is "OK," which of course I am not going to do. I have rebooted several times and it keeps coming back.

Has anyone seen this? Any ideas on how I should handle it? {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I get these sometimes and they try to look like they might be Adobe or Flash, but of course they are not. The only thing I have found is to exit and clear all your history and never go back to that particular site. You are right, there is no way to close them once they come up.

That's just it, I am not on any "site." It just pops up on my desktop before I do anything, and it's plain text, no graphics, no logo, no name of company, just a typed note. As I said, right clicking won't work, trying to highlight and delete won't work, McAfee indicates I have no viruses or issues with my computer . . . I am literally stuck with this, and it's large too, it takes up a good portion of my screen in the lower right-hand corner. Never had this kind of problem before and I've been working with computers for 35 years. I am in the process of googling right now to see if I can glean anything from that.

My problem is somewhat like yours but mine is small pop up that says Deal Finder & then list about 4 deals to click on. Also another pop up says See More & I just can't get rid of it even though I can click on the X to make it go away but then it comes back ever so often & I have to click again.

I too would appreciate any advice on how to get rid of th ""Deal Finder"" site once & for all.

Thanks.

I would go to your control panel and bring up programs installed to see if any new programs have been installed recently a lot of times new software wants to install a new search engine or toolbar along with the software you may want and you have to uncheck the box to prevent it from downloading

There's software called adwcleaner that gets good reviews for dealing with this particular pop up. Google it and give it a look. It may be just what you need.

Have you personally used this program, gardenman? I trust you, but this program has a lot of things it does to one's computer while running and I am hesitant to install it. If you've used it successfully and it has not changed your whole setup, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Uh oh! This may be trouble. Need expert help!!

Months ago I read on these boards to check if any new unwanted programs were installed. They mentioned PURPLUSH and sure enough there it was. I had similar ""ads"" every time I tried to do anything. DH finally downloaded Spyhunter and was amazed at the number of malware spawned. The scan took over 90 minutes and got rid of over 200+ items. It was relatively inexpensive ( est. $30 for 6 months ????). No more problems. HTH

I have malwarebytes, the free version. Every so often I do a scan with malwarebytes, and also scan with the free version of Avast.

I told a friend recently about both of these programs, and she was amazed at how many bad things were found on her computer after scanning with both programs.

Good luck, Ford.
