Tracfone Moto G Stylus 5G "No internet" - Solution

[ Edited ]

I've seen a lot of complaints about the new 5G version of the Moto G Stylus phone that, when people are outside (of their home) they get "No internet service" and Tracfone has no idea how to fix it.

I've been intermittently running into the same problem myself:  works inside stores, leave to head outside "No internet service".

And today, just as I was about to give up and return to my previous Moto G Stylus, I stumbled upon the solution.

I hope it works for anyone else with this problem:

The previous phone could not be unlocked.  The new 5G version can and that's where I think the issue has arisen.

Go to "Settings", then "Network & Internet".

Open "Mobile Network" and scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen (otherwise you won't see what you need).

At the very bottom tap "Access Point Names".  I suspect you'll find it is "off".  Switch that on to access the assigned Tracfone Internet (just tap the name and the dot should go solid).

In the previous phone, this could not be turned off, but because this phone can be unlocked, this setting defaulted to "off".

QVC and Tracfone could've saved everyone a lot of grief and a lot of (I suspect) phones returned as "defective", had they pointed this out during the presentations or on the website somewhere.

For now my internet is finally working when I'm "out and about".  If it stops, I'll update this!

UPDATE:  My phone has worked perfectly ever since, no matter where I am.

@Venezia    Thanks for taking the time to post all of this.  I have the Moto g Pure phone and several times I've gotten "no Internet" while in the house.  I've never had this problem with any other phone.

@Kachina624 - I spent a career in I.T. so I'm used to technology and glitches, but even I was getting so frustrated with this recurring issue that I was on the verge of switching back to my previous phone.

Every time I got the "No internet service" and tried their "helpful" suggestions, it did no good at all.

If I can help even one other person fix the issue, I'll be happy.

I stumbled upon this setting myself and turned it on and I did have internet access.   For some reason it went back to off without me changing anything.

@D Kay    Try restarting or shutting off then turning on your phone after you reset your settings.

On Samsung phones you have the option of optimizing your phone.  Does the Moto G Stylus have this option?

@Venezia I wish I'd known you needed help with this, but I'm glad you figured it out.  I posted about it in a review on the phone I did in December.  I will warn you and others that this setting will turn itself off from time to time, so if you see you're not connecting to data any longer, you have to go back in and manually turn it back on again.  This is happening on several Tracfones--not just Motorola.  I screen shot my review in case there is other information in it that might help.

Re: Tracfone Moto G Stylus 5G "No internet" - Solution

@Ainhisg - Thanks.  I didn't buy this phone for DH and myself until March.  And at first it seemed fine.  I did some Google searches and it seemed many others had the same issue, but none of the suggestions worked for them.

At least now, if it switches off, I'll know what to do.  I'm sure this problem has only developed in newer Tracfones because of Verizon's takeover.
