If you do change your mind about a phone, I'd go with Consumer Celluar. My grandfather before he passed away had a flip phone with large buttons and amplified volume. He was on the plan with the lowest minutes, which was perfect for him, and with his AARP discount paid only $17 and change a month for his plan. The phone was $50. At least he has one for 911, that to me is more important.

@Cumbercookie13  That sounds like a good plan.  Yes, calling 911 is very important.  My father wears something around his neck for that purpose
