Thinking About Doing Business with Boost Mobile?

[ Edited ]

Don't.

Just venting and warning here.

In brief, they sold me a hotspot in August, 2020 they knew would become obsolete in 2021 and didn't tell me.

The networks it uses are deteriorating and will not be repaired. As one honest rep said, "We're just letting them fail."

Boost Mobile can but will not upgrade the hotspot by putting in a different SIM card that uses newer networks. "We want to be out of the hotspot business. Customers will just have to go elsewhere."

Do you want to be involved with a company like that?

Cash loss: $150

Time wasted: 15 hours

@PickyPicky3

My wife had had Boost Mobile for several years now, and likes her monthly prepaid plan.

Not sure what plan or equipment you mention in your post, but my wife's plan is pretty simple. Auto Pay and that's it. Good in our area of the country and I think she pays $35+tax per month.

Sorry to hear about your Situation.

Boost Mobile was sold to Dish Network when Sprint mergered with T-Mobile. The company you bought service from is gone.

Some of my family members use this company. JMH0, They take advantage of good people with high prices for everything.

I follow a YouTuber Tyrone of '"The Tech Life"

channel. He has a video that talks about the new Boost Mobile.

All I wanted to know is when to buy a 5G phone.

Re: Thinking About Doing Business with Boost Mobile?

@Nuttmeg What you said is correct.

Dish Network acquired my agreement and is "doing business as" Boost Mobile. But at the beginning of May they stopped supplying adequate internet speed because of the deteriorating networks while still taking my money.

Everyone I've talked to nicely and politely says "There's nothing we can do." So I say politely, "Give me my money back." We're all so nice, but I'm getting robbed. In the next week or so I'll be moving on to a different company.

But just for fun I politely sent the information to the Attorney General's office. Dish Network knows I won't take them to court for $150.

@PickyPicky3 , is there some way your device would be compatible with another carrier?

Re: Thinking About Doing Business with Boost Mobile?

@Etoile308  I'll be spending about a week researching other companies.

Interesting - I just got off the phone with my credit card company asking if this situation qualifies for a charge dispute. After all, I did authorize the charges and have gotten 8 months' use of the hotspot. The rep said she wasn't sure about the hotspot purchase, but they have allowed customers to dispute charges when quality of service expectations have not been met.

@Nuttmeg

Thanks for the info about Dish Network buying Boost Mobile. Have had Dish network for years now after trying DirecTV and originally Primestar.

Maybe they have a combine program like CenturyLink where you tie more than 1 service in, thus get both at discounted rates. I will certainly look into it. Always worth my time yo save a $ or 2.

As I said prior, my wife is perfectly happy with her prepaid Boost monthly service and price. And I am happy with Dish Network. Might be a win-win for our TV programming and wife's cell Bill.

I personally have been very happy with my Tracfone for a very long time now.

Re: Thinking About Doing Business with Boost Mobile?

I'm not familiar with them but it's good to know.

I was with Sprint for many years, after they acquired Nextel which I was also with for years, and now that TMobile has acquired Sprint it's gone downhill fast!

Just this week I got a letter from TMobile that  my phone, which is only like 3 years old and in perfect condition, will become obsolete at the end of the year and will no longer work at all.  I paid almost $600 for that phone and I didn't feel like I got all my money's worth yet, as I tend to take great care of my stuff and use it for as long as it is useful (I know, I'm a dinosaur) .

Well, that was enough to get me to move.  I went to Spectrum (used to be Charter for decades), where I have my cable/landline/internet for decades.  Not only did I get a new model phone for less than half I paid for my last one but the monthly service is about 1/4 what I was paying at Sprint.

Moral of that story is that I would not recommend TMobile and they got the one-finger salute from me when I ditched them.  Smiley Very Happy    I hate it when one company takes over another and takes it straight down to the gutter.  I'm a pretty loyal person and as long as a company treats me well I treat them well.

What I love now, as this is only my second smart phone, after having the old types for 20+ years, is that when you switch they can move every single thing to the new phone.   It took him a little while, but it was time well spent. I didn't have to do anything beyond just logging in to the email addresses again.  I suppose that's a good thing from a security POV.   But all the rest of the email info was already on there, along with most settings, pics & docs, contacts, etc.    Plus, I didn't want to lose the phone# I've had since 1994.

Re: Thinking About Doing Business with Boost Mobile?

@chickenbutt

I have followed the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile, and the roll-out of 5G service.

I learned T-Mobile customers should buy 5G phones ASAP. The company is moving its resources to being the best 5G carrier. What happens to 4G customers who have phones still under contract with this provider?

It is nice to know you left the foolish , and changed carriers.

Xfinity and Spectrum Mobile both use Verizon's networks. Xfinity's by the G plan looks like a Verizon post-paid Plan. The only difference maybe the data Speed.

Re: Thinking About Doing Business with Boost Mobile?

Yikes, I will be looking for notification from T-Mobile. I’ve been very happy with my $15 plan over the past year as I mainly use my phone for talk and text.
