Re: The new Fire Phone.....Check it out.

The Amazon phone is not compatible with the Google app store. The Amazon app store is very small and new. Android phones are compatible with Google Playstore, so this new phone is not considered an android phone.

I would read reviews on CNet and other technology websites. I have read a few, and while the phone is nice, there are lots of problems and hurdles when bringing in a phone that operates on a new system. Reviews also were surprised the price was $199.00 with 2 year contract for this phone.

I like the phone but I'd need to know more about AT&T's plans and the costs before investing in one. It is a neat little phone though.

The main thing is to make sure ATT has good service in your area. Their plans are good. My daughter has ATT for her whole family.

You aren't stuck with ATT though even if you buy an ATT phone. You can get a service such as Straighttalk and they will send you a sim card to make the phone work with their service.

I have my Samsung Note 3 on Straighttalk even though it isn't a ST phone. I like knowing exactly what my monthly bill will be and no risk of overage fees.

We do not know whether this new phone will run on Straight Talk's network. This would be a question to ask Amazon. Does this phone require a SIM card?

I just googled and found that it come with a "" pre-installed AT&T nano SIM card"". I'm pretty sure that it would work with ST.

I heard of the Fire phone just the other day but did not look for details because I am quite happy with my Verizon service and plan to stick with them when I eventually upgrade my old-fashioned flip phone. If I were interested in switching carriers, I might consider Straighttalk, as suggested in a previous post, but would not want AT&T. A friend of mine has AT&T cell service. He lives in my metropolitan area but frequently travels around the country to other major cities, and service is pretty bad everywhere he goes - static and frequent dropped calls. {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

It for sure totally depends on the area you live in. ATT works best in our rural area. In fact, only Verizon and ATT work here. None of the other networks work here at all.

If you wanted to go with Straighttalk and you buy an ATT phone, it will still work off the ATT towers even though it is through ST. ST doesn't have their own towers. If you want your phone to work off the Verizon or one of the other Networks, you need to investigate to see what phone you need to buy to work of the towers that you want.

So even though my mom and I both have Straighttalk, hers runs off Verizon and mine is ATT because of the type of phone we have.
