I was watching HSN, they were presenting an HP laptop that was 17" in size. The host said this is the favorite size of consumers. To me it looks very large. I have had 15" and 13" laptops, with 15" being my favorite. I was just wondering what others thought.

I can’t stand my 17” HP. I’m always juggling it when I recline. It’s fine if I use it sitting in a chair but I use it on my sofa. The whole reason I bought it was for use while lying back on my couch. If I was doing it over I’d get a 15” because it’s less cumbersome.

I LOVE my 13" Macbook Pro - easily fits in my backpack and just a complete gem. I did need to get a PC for work and the one I purchased a couple years ago on Black Friday, is a 17" HP - way too big for me, but it does the job; my "vote" is the smaller the better - especially when you take portability into account.

depends on how you use your computer.  I have a 15" mac book pro and way too heavy to cart to work and conferences.  I bought a 13" and love it.  I doubt most people are buying 17" computers unless they are stationary at home and serve as a desktop.

Re: The Ideal Size For A Laptop

My laptop rarely moves from its position on my desk.  I prefer its 17" screen to do my financials and to surf the net for information.

I use my tablet when I'm in the kitchen or want to sit away from my desk, but I use it primarily to read.  I do appreciate that I can enlarge the print on the tablet, but I really prefer the 17" screen.   A neighbor of mine who has a 13" mini has a 23" screen connected to it at her desk.  I love that.  Old eyes you know!

17" is much too large for a lap IMHO.  When I used a laptop in my recliner, I had a lap table that made it easier to hold and kept it from overheating.

love both the 15 inch and 17 inch laptops.

personally, i would not go any smaller than that.

if i wanted to go smaller i would just use my tablet more.

I prefer the 17" and used it to replace my desktop...I use my IPad for the times I want to go mobile...I also like the screen size for watching Netflix and Hulu.

Re: The Ideal Size For A Laptop

The one I use for work is 15 inches and my opthalmologist said that the size is fine.  My 13 inch one would be too small to use for the 8 hours a day I work.  She also prescribed computer glasses to block the blue light to reduce eye fatigue.  Still.  When my next laptop will be 17 inches.  I want a little bigger screen for work.

Re: The Ideal Size For A Laptop

I was using a 17"HP Laptop and it was such a hassle and way too heavy....so I picked out a 13" Microsoft surface laptop and told my husband that's what I wanted for my birthday that just passed beginning of July.

I really like it... it's so easy to move around with a pleasure to use !!
