I'm cosidering ordering a book to help me learn the different features on Mac OS Sierra. I've never bought a book like this before. Are the Teach Yourself Visually or Dummies books better? Which is easier to follow?

I don't know which is better because I've only used Windows for Dummies years ago. It was wonderful. I studied it page by page. I didn't move on until I understood each section. It taught me how to make files, copy and paste, etc. I knew nothing when I started. I'm sure not a computer whiz, but can do what I need to do.
Hope that helps a little.

Thank you @mima. That helps a lot.

You can get all the same info online for free. Unless you're new to a mac, Sierra really isn't that hugely different from El Capitan.

@jaxs mom I've never read a book like this before. When I got my Mac I did look everything up online. It seemed to me, though, that there was a lot of new stuff with Sierra, and you would have to know what it was in order to Google how to use it. Is this not true?

I don't know, I haven't had any issues with Sierra and I downloaded it the day it came out. I just looked up what was new online and went from there.

@NickNack, as far as these books in general it's a matter of preference. In the past I have gone into a bookstore and leafed through both of them to see which layout, presentation and "style" I preferred.
The Teach Yourself Visually books are in color and the Dummies books are not (that I've ever seen). My personal feeling is that for me the Dummies books are my go-to when I feel the need to buy one. I like their style - plain and simple with less diagrams, drawings and screenshots, but still what's important for you to see. To me the Visually books were often overkill, but others might prefer their detail.
I don't always need books for something, I can often look it up, but there are times when I feel that having a book is more helpful to me than hunting online where I might or might not find a clear answer.

Thanks @Moonchilde. Now I just need to decide whether I really need a book. I think I'll start by looking things up online.

I brought a book last week to read on my Kindle. I was able to read a sample chapter or two before I paid for the book.

On Amazon it says "look inside" for both books. When I click on the "look inside" the circle just goes round and round and doesn't ever open the book. I am wondering if this has something to do with the fact that I downloaded Sierra last night. I've tried Googling and can't find an answer to what is wrong or how to correct it.
