Re: TSV - HP Laptop - Retail Value $1,356.00 - really??

And to your point about the Dell you got from the Q previously, every computer brand and retailer has the chance of having a lemon in the bunch. It sounds like the Dell you got a few years ago was the best of the bunch. You should feel,lucky that you had such success with it. To be honest, I really wasn't paying attention to what they were saying on tv and the prices when they sold computers until maybe 2-3 years ago. Maybe before that time they were more honest in what they were presenting as latest technology. Remember too, 10-15 years ago most computers were the latest technology, and technology has grown tremendously over the years. But since I have been paying attention, I am shocked to see old and outdated component parts that make up these computers they sell. Then to add in a bunch of extras that no one will use, from software to cheap accessories and also include useless "lifetime tech support" that is no support at all. Then when you stop and add all of that up, do some comparison shopping online, and see it is highway robbery. Just thinking about it makes me sick because I know many watching simply don't know the difference.

If I believed that an AMD DUAL CORE processor and a THREE-CELL BATTERY are the latest technology, then I need the men in the white coats to come and get me, because I've finally gone over the edge! {#emotions_dlg.w00t} As you say, there are too many people out there who trust QVC and they're selling them down the river! This has made me have a whole different outlook on QVC as a company...{#emotions_dlg.unsure}

I have read in a couple of places online (can't remember where) that supposedly, newer generations of the i-processors (and presumably their AMD equivalents) are supposed to be so much more efficient that 3-cell batteries are the equivalent of 4+ cell batteries of 5 years ago. I don't really buy this - literally or figuratively.

Actually, the new processing architecture like the Intel Haswell series for laptops are much more efficient in battery usage, so theoretically a small battery could last comparably longer than a previous battery did. It also reduces the weight of the laptop.

As of Oct 2013, Intel began shipping both Pentium and Celeron CPUs with the Haswell architecture.

On my previous Dell with a 6-cell battery, it was good for about 4 hours of use on battery. My current Dell, 6-cell also, is a Core i7 using the Haswell architecture and it runs for over 6 hours on battery, and it's almost a year old now.

Having said that though, I wouldn't trust anything Rick says. "Hyperbole" is apparently his middle name. I really don't like watching his shows; he seems to combine the worst aspects of a cheerleader and a used-car saleman.

The retail values that QVC uses for their computer offers have to be taken with a grain of salt, because what's really bumping up that price are the retail prices of the software usually included with the item - even though they are probably getting them at-cost rather than the retail price. If, for example, it includes a lifetime subscription to an anti-virus, figure that they are multiplying the per year cost of the AV times the expected number of years you would own the computer.

No matter what they put with it, and I get that the battery might be more efficient, I wouldn't buy a brand new computer with a Pentium or Celeron processor. We got a much better Toshiba computer all the way around (processor, memory, hard drive and 6 months of Webroot) with a 17.3" screen for $379 at Best Buy. They blow this retail value (and the QVC value) up with a lot of software most people will never use, and this is only a 30-day free trial with McAfee - it's not even for six months or a year! Their spiels about their computers have blown my trust in QVC out of the water....

Re: TSV - HP Laptop - Retail Value $1,356.00 - really??

{#emotions_dlg.blink} I would never order any electronic from QVC... too expensive and not worth the price point. We have two Toshiba computers and love them. I also like the CS and Tech they have right on the homepage of the computers. We also recently purchased a Toshiba computer mini/ tablet and love that too. I have had Dells and HP computers in the past and liked the HP they were good computers but, hated the tech support there. And forget about the Dell computers all there service people there are from India and that is a nightmare I would not wish on my worst enemy. Glad you are enjoying your computer O/P!

If you have Comcast you can get Norton security suite for free. I have it on all my electronics.
