Switching stuff to new phone help

I have to get a new Tracfone, my present phone is old old,a Galaxy J2.  I'm nervous about switching and losing all my stuff.  If you've done the switch, please tell me your experiences.  Thanks for any advice.

I haven't done it in a little bit but if you're switching to another Samsung it should do it for you. I never remember the information when needed but you probably have a Samsung account created. From my memory the new phone has you sign in with your samsung acct it just walks you right through and will ask if you want to transfer stuff and exactly what stuff like texts, photos contacts. Apps too I think.

So before you start grab your Samsung account info or update it if you can't remember your password. Also have your Google info for the play store. When you start up the new phone just follow the prompts.

Oh and even without service your old phone should still turn on so your pics and messages and stuff will still be there and you won't just lose it . Personally I don't move pictures because I want the clean space on a new phone.

@MoJoV  Tracfone CS told me to charge up the new phone, call and they will walk you through transferring from old to new. I haven't gone there yet, but honestly, the less labor intensive this has to be for me, the better I'm going to like it.

Re: Switching stuff to new phone help

I got a new Tracfone recently. Charge the new phone and make sure your old phone is charged also. Call Tracfone customer service and they will be able to transfer all your information and photos. They checked that the I was able to make and receive calls and texts. The minutes, text and data that are included when purchasing the phone from QVC or HSN are automatically added to your current balances. Good luck.

This kind of stuff drives me nutty, that's why I rarely ever get a new phone.  I'm going to get another Samsung, really like them.  I appreciate the helpful posts so much.

Go to Best Buy and pay the Geek Squad to assist.

If you are not tech savvy they are a great service.

How do you back up your phone?  If you don't, this is an opportunity to get into the habit.  Do a Google search how to back up your phone and go from there.  I'd post the link but every time I do, it's delted by the moderators.

Re: Switching stuff to new phone help

In general, when I swap phones, I either use an app recommended by the phone maker or let Google do it for me. When I got a Samsung phone, they wanted me to use an app to swtich things over from my Moto. With Motorola phones, I can generally just log into Google, and they swap everything over for me. Now, I back everything up on Google, so that may be why it's so easy for me, but it's relatively painless. Texts, emails, saved phone numbers, even saved voicemails all move over without a hiccup. (So far anyway. I may be jinxing myself now.)
