Re: Switching from Iphone to Samsung Galaxy S5

Wow! I am impressed with all the great comments about the Samsung Galaxys. I will definitely look into those when I am ready to go to a very smart phone. I'm still using an LG dumb phone; I don't make or receive many calls, however.

I'm back to make another comment. I just look on Amazon at the Galaxys and learned they are a contract phone, but I could not find the price per month.

I may decide to stay with my Tracfone and pay as I go.

I think it depends on if you have any other apple products. Much easier to sync between all Apple. I would also check your current apps to ensure that Andriod has the same app available. Some apps are made for iPhone only. Most apps are available on both platforms nowadays, but it won't hurt to check just in case. Overall, technology is about the same in both brands.

I think the operant phrase is "tech savvy". I think of non Mac products as being much more difficult to use than Macs. If it were a Mac OS, I'd probably prefer a Samsung myself.

Re: Switching from Iphone to Samsung Galaxy S5

I have always had Samsung phones, but thought since I got an IPad it would work better if I had an iPhone. I had the iPhone for 3 days before I went back to the store and traded it for the Samsung S5. I even took a class at the Apple store to learn how to use the iPhone. Every question I asked was answered with "you can't do that on the iPhone" - sorry iPhone lovers, I'm sure there are more things you can do with yours. I thought I wanted a more structured format, but found out I used too many things that an Android/Samsung does that an iPhone can't.

As for syncing between my S5 and iPad, I sync my calendar, email, photos and music through Google. There's a Google app for the iPad and it works fine for me.

BTW, DH has an S3 and loves it. The S5 is a little bigger and has a longer battery life, but this is his first smart phone and he didn't want to spend a lot of money in case he wanted to go back to his flip phone- haha.

Re: Switching from Iphone to Samsung Galaxy S5

Thank you all for your comments. I'm getting very excited about purchasing this phone. I knew the minute I looked at it and played with it just how much I would like to have it. I do have an Ipad but don't really use it all that much. I don't see how it would matter having a different phone.

Re: Switching from Iphone to Samsung Galaxy S5

LOL! I just went from a Samsung S5 to the iPhone 6 Plus because my kids couldn't believe I wouldn't try an iPhone. Once they offered the larger screen I told them I would. Well, I've had the iPhone for 2 days and I haven't stopped complaining Smiley Wink DH said, "You just had to give up something that worked didn't you?"

I don't know why people say iPhone's the easiest. I've found it to be harder and I have an iPad that I love! So it's not because I can't use Apple products. I'm going to give it a few more days but I just don't think it's easier.

Example, I love setting different ringtones (real music) for different contacts. At first I thought I couldn't do that at all with my iPhone but I found a way. With an Android you download Zedge, search for a ringtone, download it and assign it to the contact right from Zedge.

The "supposedly easier" iPhone? I downloaded Zedge and got the message that I had to also install some other app. And I had to hook up my iPhone to my PC (with the cable) and go to iTunes (required a very big install on my PC) and then I had to do a bunch of syncing. All of that just to be able to see the ringtones on my iPhone. Then I had to go to each contact and select the ringtone. It was a lot of work. Definitely not easier Smiley Wink

I also tried to use the basic email app on the iPhone and added both of my gmail accounts to it. Bad move. I didn't get notifications. Turns out iPhones don't give immediate notifications for all types of email accounts. I removed those and installed Google Mail (the default mail for all Androids) and now I get notifications. But I can't find anyway to change the gmail notification sound! It may be there but I can't find how to do it. Easier than an Android? Not so far Smiley Wink

I'm sure there is some stuff that is better. Like the hardware itself. But Androids have improved dramatically in the last few years and I may yet return this thing and get the Samsung Note 4!!

If it doesn't cost you anything, I would do that. Love Samsung! I have the note 3. I can't upgrade for a while since I've only had this phone about 6 months, but I'm sure when I do it will be another Samsung Note!
