I ain't "Your Tech Guy", but I haven't seen him answer anything yet. Maybe the whole "tech guy" thing is just another farce.
I've had and still have big screen Mitsubishi TV sets, DLP, as is all of their big screens sold on QVC.
Now 5,000 hours is a lot of TV watching. I think you are comparing this to the fluorescent lit LCD, and that is not the same. If LCD lighting goes and along with that the pixels? You just might as well buy an new LCD, as it would probably cost more to fix it than to replace it.
When they say 60,000 hours on the LCD, they don't bother to mention that fact that the pixels start disappearing. Since DLP has no pixels, it is all mirrored reproduction, that problem does not exist.
Last light I bought for my older DLP Mitsubishi cost me $135. From what I am told, the Series 7 Models, if your 82" is a WD80738, all the sizes should cost the same. I can buy one for my WD60738 for $95. I believe the 180 watt lamp is used for all sizes of the Series 7 Model.
