Suggestions for a replacement for Picture It

I recently got a new computer with Windows7. It does NOT support my favorite card-making/creative software program--Picture It. I've been reading reviews of card-making software and most, if not all of them, get dismal reviews.

Does anyone have any suggestions/insights for me?

What I need: A simple, user-friendly program that allows me to create my own greeting cards, display ads for our family business and other projects using my own text and photos from my computer. It must be able to resize photos/graphics. It must allow me to print the finished project from my printers. Not interested in professional, on-line printing.

What I don't need: clip art--never use it. Most card-programs brag about the quanity of their clip art library. That means nothing to me.

I've been reading about Microsoft Publisher. Is anyone familiar with that program? Does it do the things I listed above? I have MS Home and Business 2010 and would have to upgrade to MS Professional. I'd be willing to do that if the program would do the things I need it to do.

If anyone can offer any suggestions, I will be so grateful. TIA
