Hi,

I have a laptop with Windows 7. I never have a problem with the sound through the speakers or with headphones except when I try to listen to a YouTube video for the purpose of writing out music. To do this, I have to listen, then stop the video. Oftentimes I have to "rewind" the video to re-listen to a section of music. If I rewind more than once, and try to play the video from the beginning, the sound stops completely. Sometimes I can just hear a little static when I do that. If I wait overnight, the sound resumes the next day.

I went through a Microsoft Windows tutorial to check for potential sound problems. My sound driver is "working properly" and there are "no new updates to install."

Any idea why this is happening? TIA.

Is the volume bar also turned up on each video when you listen? Not your computer volume but the volume bar on the video.

Yes, WeiRDgeRL. I checked all volume bars even though I never touch them or change them. I already listened to the video once through, then I went to the beginning, listened to the first couple of measures, then rewound to the beginning. That's when the sound stopped. This has happened in the past. Like I said, if I wait until tomorrow, the sound will be back without having touched the volume bars.

darn ok. I was having a similar issue and then realized the volume kept resetting on the youtube videos and I always have to slide the bar to the right all the time. It never used to be that way so I don't know whats causing it.

Oh. Now I understand your point. I just went back to see if the bar on the video had reset itself to zero even though I never touch it, but no, it's at about 80%. BUT, the sound is now back on! It's like it needs to "rest" for a while, which is inconvenient.

I just posted last week that one of my speakers is going out on my notebook. Listening to utube videos at high volume. I checked the speaker symbol at the bottom and in that is a mixer settings that you can check. I redid that and it didn't help, I was still getting static from the right speaker. If I leave the volume lower I just hear the left speaker.

I finally ordered a separate speaker from amazon that plugs into a port on the notebook. It does help the sound and makes the volume louder. It has a battery you can charge but it is already charged and I just tried it tonight watching a cat video. It comes with a usb charger too.

It is called an AYL portable mini speaker and it got good reviews. 17.99 It is shaped like an egg and opens up to use and has a volume control on it and a light.

I think it is going to work until I can get my notebook to the shop to be looked at.

You say you have Windows 7. What type of computer do you have? Have you tried Troubleshooting? You click Start, then Control Panel. Under System and Security, click Find and Fix Problems. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot Audio Playback. Click next to continue. Wait while the troubleshooter checks the computer for problems. Select the audio connection device you want to troubleshoot, such as speakers. Then click Next. Wait while the troubleshooter detects problems and makes changes. When the troubleshooter is done, the Troubleshooting has completed page displays listing any problems found and what changes were made to the computer. Click Close and Troubleshooting is complete. This info is available at the HP website. If troubleshooting doesn't work, it's possible that your sound card could be on its way out. HTH

OP, so your 'audio' problem is only while using Youtube videos -

Make sure you have the current Adobe Flash Player installed.

Youtube accepts IE, Chrome and Firefox browsers but will not support Safari - you do not mention which browser(s) you use - I use IE 11 and Chrome for Youtube videos. I have windows 7 too. Make sure your browsers are all up to date.

Maybe try listening to videos on Vimeo too, on all your browsers. Video sites are always making changes//upgrades it seems. Youtube has been a little fussy lately. Good luck with your music and resolving your issue on Youtube.

ETA:: I also enabled my Java Script in my browsers. ((I was having to 'refresh' any/all Youtube videos to get them to replay from the beginning/middle etc....they were freezing up ie audio and/or movement and not rewinding either)) I'm not sure this will help but worth a try maybe.

[[I read on Google that there was an update with Flash which put the 'audio' on all Youtube videos back to a mute or move the bar so no sound, fyi...... I think that has been resolved.]]
