It is possible to hack a computer and use the built in camera to "see" the people using it. I haven't heard of the same thing happening with a smart TV.

I remember seeing a local consumer news report (NYC) on television about a couple of years ago that it is possible for hackers to get into a smart TV that's connected to the internet and to hack the camera so they can see the room and people viewing the television. It was suggested that if you must keep the set connected to the internet and if this is bothersome to you, it's advisable to cover the camera eye. I don't have or need a smart TV, so I have no plans to get one. My non-smart Samsung is good enough for me.
