Shutter clicking sounds: Am I just paranoid or ???

I was browsing on my laptop, when out of the blue I started to hear the sound of a camera shutter clicking coming from the computer. I didn't have my webcam on (I never even use it), and had never heard that sound on the computer before; it stopped when I closed the browser.

I've heard that hackers can spy on you through the webcam, so I now have a piece of tape over it.

Have any of you every heard this sound? Is it "nothing" or do I have cause for concern?
