@Lilysmom That is a great idea about the ereader app. It would be great just to switch back and forth. That is an idea that would give either Kindle or Ipad a great upgrade and they would actually have something NEW to offer.
You know, the newer Kindle HDs do have a "blue light" feature. I think it is for reading. Anyone have any experience with that? Maybe that is close to the ereader? I can't remember now. I skim read it, but didn't pay much attention since I have the Paperwhite. I guess I need to go back and look at it again. It might have been for reading at night. I just can't remember.
I have a Samsung Note 3 and love it too! I think it is aprox. the size of your Iphone 6+. I want to upgrade to a newer phone, but that is dumb because this one works perfect. I can even read on it in a pinch.
Yes, I love these forums for the information. I think I'll hold off for a while longer. Don't they sometimes come out with new things in March or am I dreaming? I know the fall is a good time for new things also.

My goal now is to try to get rid of old electronics while they still have some value and stay more current.
Like I say, I haven't picked up my beloved Paperwhite/Voyage since I got the Mini. To me it works just the same and is as easy to read or better than the Voyage, and isn't too big to hold comfortably like my old version 3 IPad, and has beautiful color photos and illustration display ability. So far, for ME, the Mini is the best of all worlds hands down.

@Lilysmom and @mima, the e-ink is not an app. The physical components within the device are completely different in an e-ink device than a back-lit device like a tablet. I have a vague recollection that a few years back a company tried to make a 2-in-1 and it was a disaster, not good with either technology. You can't just download something to overlay one in the other, it doesn't work that way.
There are several different e-ink Kindle models for sale at varying prices from $80 to $200, from the basic to all the bells and whistles. You can go to the Amazon website or google "compare Kindle models" and see the differences to decide what you might prefer.

@Moonchilde@Sooner@mima, thanks for the additional info. I didn't realize that you could not marry the e ink to the backlit iPad technology. Too bad. Maybe someone will find a way in time.
I will be watching for improvements. I often wonder if I could do iPad mini. I am thinking I will probably stick with the full size as I have the iPhone 6+ for mobility. B
Happy weekend! LM

@Lilysmom wrote:@Moonchilde@mima@Sooner et al, interesting discussion. I always read the ereader discussions thinking I may soon want a new one. I have a Sony ereader that is 4-5 years old.
In the discussions on iPads, I have iPad 3 and have loved it from the beginning. DH has iPad Air. He is very non techie and he loves it also. I was thinking it would be great if iPad had an e ink app for reading books. Then you would not have to carry iPad and ereader when traveling. What do you think? I could never not read e ink as I read a lot so that makes iPad not an option.
i have the iPhone 6+ and I love it. I never carry a camera anymore and I use it a lot instead of GPS. Now if we could get an ereader function on iPads, I would be a happy woman.
i still really like my Sony ereader and haven't seen a new one that would make me jump for it.
thanks for your comments. Helps me stay informed! LM
I have not piced up my beloved Kindle Paperwhite or Voyage since I got the mini IPad a couple of weeks ago. I am very surprised by that.

I don't know if I was dreaming or not. Yesterday I swear I saw a new 8" color Kindle e-reader on Amazon. It was $199 I think. I think it was in color and larger to be the best for both books and magazines. It said it was the best ever. Today I don't see it anywhere!

I had problems with my Fire HDX that I thought was a charger, but ended up being the device, so I had to purchase a new one. I couldn't afford the HDX at this time, so settled for a HD 8. It came yesterday and I love it! It has a front and rear camera, as well as a mic for emails and FB. I actually can read and reply to FB easier on this new one than I could the old one.
The only thing I don't like is that I used to be able to tap "?" and get a face to see me. Now it's a call to a person and I don't think (can't be sure tho) that my device is visible to them. But if that's my only complaint, so be it!

I did not know Amazon is still making the HDX. Sometimes Amazon has their own easy payment plan for their devices.
