I do not stay up on all the technical news anymore,..... but people make and need decisions to be made based on other issues besides the newest stuff available.
To the different models discussed here, how often and how it will be used, their budget concerns, and as to the provider companies, the constraints to each one, monthly rates and the user location. In addition to other equipment that they may have and use.
One should not think how they use a device, would be the same needs as others.
Currently the S5 is $660.00 with one provider, $650.00 another , and maybe will be $550.00 with different provider. I know people that are happy with the S2, and use it all day. Is the S5 great, yes it is........do the math, think of your needs, do some research, ask some acquaintances......and
Good luck with your choice

I agree with several others here - i am retired and just don't have a need for an expensive phone to search the web with. I am usually at home with my computer. I have an LG840g that allows me to call and text - get on FB and check e mail takes great pictures that I can e mail. And I pay $98 including a year of service and 2000 min plus triple min for life. I will not be paying somewhere between $550 and $650 plus service for a cell phone anytime soon.

Too late. It is.
Processor, Operating system, RAM...
All of these. Don't complain when it's lagging along, and bogging down.
Enjoy your phone.
Anyone that has been following electronic technology for a few decades can tell you that whatever it is you buy today there will probably be a good chance of a "newer and supposedly" better model out. Who knows? Maybe even before you get the one you ordered.
Been around fooling with audio and video going way back before there was even "stereo radio)called FM". Doubt too many hear go that far back with tearing apart a radio and fooling with "reverbs and rheostats" to be able to make "mono music" sound like 2 discrete Left and Right Channel music.
I did this in several of my cars and not with only 2 speakers, but with at least 8 of them controlled by rheostats/faders and reverbs.
Anyone that thinks they are going to keep up with technological chances and always have the latest and greatest, they don't know the history of this field at all.
I say to buy what you think will suit your needs when you think the price is right and to heck with any concern about what will come down the pike in a week/year or whatever. Those that wait not only may be disappointed in the "latest and greatest", but will also have deprived themselves of using something that they thoroughly would have enjoyed the whole time they were waiting for the latest in technology.
Had a friend, who passed on last year. He was always hesitant to buy what he felt he wanted when it came to a Audio System or Video System for the very reasons some here have said. "It will be obsolete in XYZ"! Physaw I say. I installed all of his latest equipment in his home and I was still trying to get him to upgrade to HDTV when he died.
He lived many years waiting for the "latest" and he never had a chance to enjoy all the HD Video along with the 5.1 DTS/DD sound systems. I told him the chances of him knowing much difference in the newer methods of reproducing sound or video where miniscule, if not smaller. While I did get him into a pretty good Audio/Video setup for his home, he just would not go for High Def TV until he could get the latest and greatest. He died while waiting.
