Don't know whether this will apply to your dishwasher, but my relatively new LG dishwasher has a feature (or flaw, depending on how you look at it) that no dishwasher in my past has ever had.

I was told that my old machines could literally grind up any stray food solids and send them down the drain. When I bought my LG, the salesman explained the 2-piece filter that needs to be removed periodically and cleaned.  It catches the debris, instead of allowing it to be ground up and disposed of.

I"m not crazy about this feature and originally thought this would be no big deal, because my dishes are practically clean before they go into the machine.  However,  I've  found that some barely visible sort of scum collects along the edge of the filter, so I do take it apart and clean it periodically.

If you have a filter system in your machine instead of a grinding operation, this might be why the repairman said to rinse thoroughly first.

Oddly enough, however, my manual says the dishwasher and the detergent works best without first rinsing the dishes so thoroughly.  I don't know who to believe, but I know I don't like the LG and am wishing for a good old KitchenAid.

@Nicecupoftea  i have a Samsung DW and we had the repaireman here 3 x since February when it was delivered. each time we got error codes after the cyle has started and ran for at least 30 minutes. blinking lights and beeps, then the DW just stopped.

First,  we had to have a sensor part replaced.  Another visit, he told us to rinse the dishes, use a rinse aid,  another one said we were using too much detergent. for the past few weeks, i have been runnning the Heavy cycle (over an hour)   and there is still food stuck here and there and some of the silverware has food stuck.

the water is hot enough and i think it is a lemon but the person here who bought the DW won't ask for a replacement, even though we had worked up the channel from Home Depot to Samsung corporate.

just wondering if you experienced the same or similar
