I presently have the Samsung Android. If I purchase the TSV since it is a good buy just for the minutes, will my present minutes transfer? I find that if you primarily text, this phone is very expensive but it is because I have a land line and am home most often so use the computer for internet access. I purchased (again) the LG840 just to use for texting since that proves to be more economical for me and I text a lot! I am debating about keeping my Samsung Android activated but saw this preview and think it will be worth the price just for the minutes, IF I can transfer what I presently have on my same phone.

Re: Samsung Android Tracfone

Yes they transfer. I did it going from a LG800 to the 840.

Do you have the Galaxy Centura?

I'm considering the TSV because I purchase a $100 card each year so this would be like getting the phone for free. I like the 840 but it wasn't as ""smart"" as I thought. I didn't understand it isn't Android so this new one is appealing for that too. I don't text much but am curious what you mean about it not being good for that relative to the 840. I figured it would work the same. They are so excited when doing the presentations they skip over these important details. I haven't ordered because I do still want to see the presentation. I'm not clear on how they divide up the minutes. I'd prefer to be able to use most for calls so I may need to figure that out and if it will work for me.

How is the phone on wifi? The 840 is not especially good. Another drawback of the 840 is you can't get the virtual qwerty keypad for all activities. I'm hoping the Samsung is better in that regard as well and allows the keypad whenever you need to input text.

I think then that it will work well for you. It is a great little phone and I really like it except for my needs it is expensive. It was costing me approximately $45.00 a month for mostly texting. The 840 is so much more economical for that. The wifi is good. For instance, now I have 4266 talk, 5136 data/internet, 482 text. I keep having to buy more minutes just for the text. You cannot buy individually. I like the Samsung a lot; it is a nice phone and probably will suit your needs well. For me, right now I have two phones. The LG for texting and the Samsung for talk and data which I use rarely. My phone usage is probably not the norm.

My wife had TracFone for years and it work great for her. Then, unfortunately, she got into texting. With this the "talk" minutes were not enough and she had to keep adding minutes.

When hsn had the Samsung Galaxy II for $199 she went for it. It is with Virgin Mobile and costs her $35 per month for: Unlimited Texting/Unlimited Data and 300 Talk Minutes. Like you, she seldom talks to anyone but me anymore on her cell, so these 300 are enough minutes for her.

If she would have stuck with her LG840G it would have cost her much more monthly just to buy the minutes for her texting. She never liked the 840G and she is now much happier and paying less per month with a much Superior Phone.

I myself have the Samsung Centura and it came with triple:Text/Data/Talk along with 3 months added to the expiration date I already had with my old phone. So I now have around 4500 of each and my plan does not expire until August of 2015. Figure with the cost of the phone it costs me around $5.95 per month.

No! I ain't into texting and my wife knows if she sends one to me she will never hear back. I am into technology and have been since the 1950's. Cell phones to me are not one that strikes my fancy so I use them for the traditional way of ages ago telephones.

Re: Samsung Android Tracfone

I'm not grasping how the text, talk, and other minutes work. Do you purchase a different card than for the other, older Tracfones? Or does the time just get divided among the three? I'd probably be in the reverse situation and bank the text while using the talk. I have triple minutes and use the phone infrequently so the $100 card has been more than enough. But if it works such that I'll only get 1/3 talk minutes I'm used to I might be getting close. I also wonder what will happen to the minutes I transfer. Will they all stay talk or get split up? I hope they explain all this.

Oh, I forgot to ask. Since you're familiar with both phones does the Centura have better virtual keypad use? I forget now when the LG840 doesn't use it. I think it's when adding names to the phonebook, you must use the number keypad and hit it over and over to get letters. You only get the qwerty for texts, or something like that. It's a real deficit of the 840.

When I bought the Samsung Centura it came with 300 Text/Talk and Data along with a 1 year expiration. Since my old phone had close to 4500 minutes left they added the 4500 Text/4500 Data and 4500 talk minutes to my phone. They also extended the expiration 3 months along with adding the triple "everything with this phone".

I think that once you have this "triple plan" with TracFone after you buy a specific phone with these features, each time you buy minutes all of these features triple. Nothing is split into 3rds with my plan. I don't buy cards and never have. I've always waited till hsn had a special on a particular phone and bought the whole package. It has always been cheaper to do this and each time it upgrades my phone.

I would assume if you buy a card and you are on a plan with TracFone where you that Text/Talk and Data, that when you buy a specific card all of these will be tripled and not cut into 3 sections.

Mentioned in my previous post that when I bought this phone they moved my 4500 minutes to the new phone and added 4500 in Text and Data along with the Talk.

Re: Samsung Android Tracfone

hckynt, I find that the LG840G, that I use mainly for texting is very economical. My sister bought it at my suggestion and feels the same. I text a lot having 3 children, grand children plus other relatives. I bought the LG840G with 1500 minutes plus triple for life for 70.00 + tax and s&h. I have had it about 3 weeks and have 1441.67 remaining minutes. This is my 3rd LG. I keep buying because it is cheaper to buy the specials than buy the minutes online plus you get a new phone with accessories. The Samsung Centura seems to eat up the text minutes much faster than the LG. I know it won't cost me $45.00 a month which I am spending now on the Android.

Wow. You had 4500 mins and wound up with effectively 135,000 mins? If I purchase a 400 min card it triples to 1200 talk mins. Are you thinking that with the Samsung you'd get 1200 talk, 1200 text, and 1200 data? {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

I just reread the email I got about the TSV and it comes with 1200 mins of each: talk, text, and data. I think I can't NOT get this! It's a much better deal for me for texting because I'll get the same talk minutes I'm used to AND have the same amount to text with. As you know with other phones the talk, text and data comes out of the one bucket of (tripled) time.

I wonder if the Samsung uses 1 min/text. The LG uses .3 mins or 3 texts/min.
